Legal writing without pain: The UBA Committee on International Law held an online discussion

On October 20, 2025, the UBA Committee on International Law held an online meeting in the format of a virtual coffee chat on the topic of “Legal texts without pain | How to write effectively and transnationally.”

The event was part of a series of informal meetings combining professional discussion with a friendly atmosphere, and once again confirmed the importance of high-quality communication in the field of international law. The initiative brought together lawyers, corporate advisors, business representatives, and legal educators from different regions of Ukraine and other countries who face the daily need to create legal texts for a transnational audience - contracts, memoranda, communications, analytics, and correspondence.

The speakers at the event were Olga Kuchmienko, Chair of the UBA Committee on International Law, attorney at law, Ph.D. in Law, and Viktoriia Ivaschenko, member of the Committee Board, Counsel at Redcliffe Partners.

During the discussion, they shared practical approaches to legal writing in an international context, emphasizing the importance of not only legal accuracy, but also clarity, logic, and adaptability of texts to the needs of multicultural and multilingual teams. Participants discussed how to avoid unnecessary complexity, legal jargon, and repetitions that can hinder understanding, and how to structure documents in such a way that they are easy to read and understand regardless of jurisdiction.

The Committee team expresses its gratitude to all participants for their active participation, interesting questions, and constructive discussion.
