Priorities

Over the years, the Ukrainian Bar Association has been directing its efforts to unite the country's legal community and be its powerful voice. The UBA has been creating opportunities for the professional growth of lawyers, promoting the exchange of experience between lawyers, has been a leader of expert opinion, contributing to law-making activities, and developing cooperation with the international legal community.

The full-scale Russian invasion made certain adjustments to the UBA activities. By defending the country on the legal front, we launched a number of initiatives aimed at countering Russian aggression and bringing to justice all those guilty of international crimes in Ukraine. Our priorities in this area of activity are:

  • advocating the creation of a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine;
  • collection of evidence of war crimes committed by Russian invaders;
  • promoting the development of effective compensation mechanisms for damage caused by Russian aggression.

At the same time, the Association continues its work on strengthening the rule of law, protecting human rights, and improving the legislative framework given the realities of wartime. The UBA tasks within the framework of this activity are:

  • free legal assistance to citizens and businesses affected by the war (Hotline);
  • protection of the rights of military personnel; cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to ensure proper representation in cases related to military and war crimes;
  • development of legislative proposals by the UBA committees.

Of course, the support of lawyers who found themselves in a difficult situation due to the war, and the further development of the legal profession also remain among our priorities. The components of this area of UBA activity:

  • support for lawyers during the war: financial assistance, assistance with relocation within Ukraine, help with finding housing and work for those who left Ukraine;
  • integration of Ukrainian lawyers into the international legal community through cooperation with international legal associations and other organizations;
  • creation of educational and professional opportunities for lawyers, primarily for the younger generation (Students’ League, Forum of Young Lawyers).
