The UBA Committee discussed specifics of computer-technical examinations in criminal proceedings

On September 16, 2025, Kyiv hosted an event entitled “Specifics of Appointing Computer-Technical Examinations in Criminal Proceedings,” organized by the UBA Committee on Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law in cooperation with the Research Center of Independent Forensic Examinations of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

The event brought together lawyers, forensic experts, attorneys, and representatives of state authorities to discuss pressing issues related to the appointment and conduct of computer-technical examinations within criminal proceedings.

The discussion focused on the following topics:

  • unauthorized interference into information, automated, and electronic communication systems;
  • unlawful creation and distribution of malicious software;
  • unauthorized handling of data processed in computer systems;
  • violations of rules governing the operation of computer systems and communication facilities;
  • specific features of forensic examinations in these areas.

The event was moderated by:

  • Yevhen Riyako, Deputy Chair of the UBA Committee on Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law, Managing Partner at RIYAKO & PARTNERS;
  • Sergii Boiko, Member of the UBA Committee Board, Partner at VB PARTNERS.

Keynote presentations were delivered by leading experts of the Research Center of Independent Forensic Examinations:

  • Artem Kostiuk, Chief Forensic Expert;
  • Oleksandr Zaks, Chief Forensic Expert;
  • Kyrylo Uskov, Forensic Expert in Computer Technology and Software Products with 25 years of professional experience.

The discussion was held in a professional and constructive atmosphere. Participants had the opportunity to raise questions, exchange practical experience, and review real-life cases from law enforcement and judicial practice.
