Experts and lawyers discussed the specifics of commodity expertise: joint event held by the UBA and the Research Center for Independent Judicial Expertise
On November 20, 2025, a joint event was held in Kyiv by the UBA Committee on Criminal and Criminal Procedure Law and the Scientific Research Center for Independent Judicial Expertise of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine titled “Features of appointing commodity expertise in criminal proceedings.”
Participants had the opportunity to discuss topical issues related to the appointment and conduct of commodity expertise, its role in proving cases, as well as typical problems that arise when assessing the value of property in criminal proceedings.
The event was moderated by:
Stanislav Boris, Deputy Chairman of the UBA Committee on Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law, Managing Partner of Vidar Law Firm;
Dmytro Nikiforov, Member of the Board of the UBA Committee on Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law, Partner at Bargen Law Firm.
The reports were presented:
Svitlana Tarasyutina, leading forensic expert of the Department of Economic and Commodity Research of the Kyiv Branch of the National Scientific Center “ISE named after Honored Professor M.S. Bokarius,” who shared practical aspects of conducting commodity expertise and the challenges faced by experts.
Ruslan Popov, forensic expert specializing in “Determining the value of machinery, equipment, raw materials, and consumer goods,” who focused on methods of determining value, the specifics of equipment assessment, and the specifics of documenting results.
Participants noted the high practical value of the knowledge gained and the usefulness of the recommendations discussed for lawyers, investigators, and experts.
The event ended with a lively discussion and exchange of experiences among specialists, which once again confirmed the importance of proper appointment and conduct of commodity expertise to ensure effective and fair pre-trial investigation.
