New Challenges and Strategies of Artificial Intelligence: How Intellectual Property is Evolving – UBA Expert Discussion
On 28 August 2025, a professional event was organized by the UBA Committee on IT, Media and Data Protection jointly with the UBA Committee on Intellectual Property. The meeting, entitled “Intellectual Property: New Challenges and Strategies in the Era of Artificial Intelligence”, brought together an expert audience to discuss key legal aspects of AI use in the field of intellectual property.
The event was moderated by:
Veronika Myltseva, attorney at law, expert in international AI regulation, member of the UBA Committee on IT, Media and Data Protection;
Yuliia Kolchenko, attorney at law, member of the Board of the UBA Intellectual Property Committee.
Among the speakers:
- Iryna Stroiko, Ph.D., attorney at law, member of the Board of the UBA Committee on IT, Media and Data Protection;
- Oleh Dubno, AI Program Manager at the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine;
- Dmytro Doroshenko, Head of Creative Economy Development Department at UKRNOIVI (the IP Office);
- Olena Andriienko, Deputy Legal Director of Publicis Groupe Ukraine;
- Kostiantyn Zerov, Ph.D. in Law, intellectual property attorney at law, Assistant Professor at the Department of IP and Information Law, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
The first session addressed new challenges for IP rights in the digital era, as well as legal nuances of AI-generated content. The second session focused on authorship: whether artificial intelligence can be considered an author and how the international legal community responds to the new reality of automated creativity.
In the third session, experts shared practical guidance for businesses — how to prepare for potential legal disputes, what to look for in contracts with AI solution developers, and how to effectively manage IP rights in the AI context.
The closing part of the event was devoted to international regulatory approaches: participants analyzed the positions of EU, U.S., and UK regulators on copyright in AI-generated content.
The discussion sparked active engagement among participants, underscoring the strong interest of the legal community in the challenges arising from the development of artificial intelligence technologies and the pressing need to adapt the legal framework to new realities.
