Truth Hounds Join the UBA Human Rights Institute’s Discussion Project on International Experience in Transitional Justice

For the Human Rights Institute of the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA), work on the topic of transitional justice is one of the key priorities. That is why this year we began exploring the international experience of transitional justice and supporting Ukrainian legal professionals in this process through a series of joint webinars with the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ).

We are pleased to share that in September 2025, Truth Hounds, together with the Department of International and European Law of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, joined the Global Transitional Justice discussion project.

The involvement of Truth Hounds aims to broaden the scope and geography of issues to be discussed jointly by Ukrainian and international experts, and strategically — to expand and deepen dialogue with the expert community from the Global South, to study their experiences, and to create opportunities to share Ukraine’s own.

In recent years, the human rights defenders and lawyers of Truth Hounds have carried out a number of important visits to countries in Asia, Africa, and South America. Despite the vast distances, Ukraine and these distant countries often share common problems and challenges, particularly those related to accountability for violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, the consequences of overcoming armed conflicts — including restoring justice, the right to truth, and ensuring proper reparations for victims of armed conflicts — as well as, more broadly, the struggle for democracy, the effects of profound social transformations, and the crisis of the international justice system.

The webinar series will involve both Ukrainian lawyers, experts, and human rights defenders — including representatives of Truth Hounds and the Department of International and European Law of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy — as well as experts, lawyers, and media professionals from countries of the Global South, depending on the focus of each particular discussion.

It should be recalled that in recent years, against the backdrop of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine — both at the state level and within civil society — has significantly intensified its dialogue with countries in Asia, Africa, Central and South America. Part of this dialogue concerns issues of international law, justice, and human rights. The joint discussion series of the UBA Human Rights Institute, ICTJ, Truth Hounds, and the Department of International and European Law of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy will further support these efforts.

Follow announcements on the pages of the UBA, Truth Hounds, and partner organizations, and join the discussions.
