Artificial intelligence in legal practice: UBA event in Kyiv
On September 24, 2025, Kyiv hosted an event “The Use of AI in Legal Practice,”organized by the Section of Attorneys and Lawyers of the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA).
The discussion was moderated by Yevhen Hrushovets, Acting Head of the UBA Section of Attorneys and Lawyers, Partner at Ario Law Firm.
During the event, legal professionals shared their perspectives on the role of artificial intelligence in legal practice, as well as practical case studies and tools for its application.
Serhii Boiko, Member of the UBA Committee on Criminal and Criminal Procedural Law and Partner at VB PARTNERS, focused on integrating artificial intelligence into the daily workflows of legal practitioners. He offered specific recommendations for effective interaction with AI systems - from formulating precise prompts to adhering to security protocols when handling sensitive data. Serhii also highlighted useful AI tools already assisting lawyers today, including Perplexity, Claude, QuillBot, Gemini, and Merlin AI, which are employed for information retrieval, text editing, drafting legal documents, translations, and analyzing video and web content.
Dmytro Tylipskyi, Counsel at EQUITY, approached this topic from a more philosophical and strategic perspective. He shared his personal experience of implementing AI in legal practice and reviewed examples of its use abroad. Dmitry emphasized that the development of AI is not just a technological breakthrough, but a profound transformation that is already changing the legal profession. He also touched on the attitude of Ukrainian courts towards AI and the problems they face.
Julian Khorunzhyi, Member of the UBA Committee on Procedural Law and Senior Partner at Ario Law Firm, highlighted the broader context of AI's application in the legal profession. He noted that ChatGPT and similar tools are actively used to draft contracts, conduct legal analysis, prepare business correspondence, and model legal arguments. Julian emphasized the importance of security considerations: lawyers must be mindful of confidentiality, avoid transferring personal data, and carefully verify information generated by AI.
He also identified global trends: law firms in the US and Europe are already integrating AI into their daily operations, automating routine tasks and increasing efficiency. Ukrainian lawyers have the opportunity to take advantage of this experience by adapting these tools to local conditions.
Overall, the event demonstrated a high level of professional interest in AI and confirmed that artificial intelligence is no longer the future, but the present, actively changing the legal reality.
