Protecting Whistleblowers’ Labor Rights: Key Takeaways from the UBA Labor Law Committee Event
On June 10, 2025, the UBA Labor Law Committee held an online discussion titled “Legal Protection of Whistleblowers’ Labor Rights: Theory and Enforcement Practice.” The event brought together experts in labor law and anti-corruption policy to examine current challenges and explore legal mechanisms for safeguarding whistleblowers in the workplace.
Participants engaged in a focused discussion on the following key issues:
- The definition and legal status of a whistleblower, and the procedure for acquiring such status;
- The scope of whistleblower immunity and categories of individuals entitled to it;
- Legal remedies available to protect whistleblowers’ labor rights;
- The role and powers of the National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) in labor-related whistleblower protection;
- Judicial practice in cases involving reinstatement, protection from dismissal, and other employment disputes involving whistleblowers.
The event was moderated by Inessa Letych, Acting Chair of the UBA Labor Law Committee, Counsel at Asters and Co-Head of the firm’s labor law practice.
Featured speakers included:
Anastasiia Renkas, Head of the Whistleblower Development Division at NACP, who shared practical insights into the agency’s work in protecting whistleblower rights;
Sergiy Silchenko, Deputy Chair of the Committee and Managing Partner at ROLAND Law Firm, who presented a review of relevant court cases and his experience in litigation involving whistleblowers’ labor rights.
The event drew a large audience and sparked an active and substantive discussion, underscoring the importance of this topic in today’s Ukrainian legal and social context.
