Paul R. Williams’ Book “Lawyering Peace: The Role of Lawyers in Peace Negotiations” Named Among the Laureates of the All-Ukrainian Literary and Art Award “Kyiv Book of the Year” — 2025

The Ukrainian edition of Dr. Paul R. Williams’ book “The Path to Reconciliation: How Law Shapes a Lasting Peace” has been named a laureate of the All-Ukrainian Literary and Art Award “Kyiv Book of the Year” — 2025. The book was recognized in the category of Documentary and Non-Fiction Literature.

Dr. Paul R. Williams — Doctor of Juridical Science, Professor, and Co-Founder of the Public International Law & Policy Group (PILPG). His book was translated into Ukrainian and published in 2025 by the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) with the support of the International Renaissance Foundation. The publication has become an important resource for Ukrainian lawyers, diplomats, and policymakers. It provides an in-depth analysis of global practices in peaceful conflict resolution. The author devotes particular attention to the inclusion of civil society in shaping the content of peace agreements — as a crucial prerequisite for the sustainability of such arrangements.

The All-Ukrainian Literary and Art Award “Kyiv Book of the Year” is presented annually on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day. Its purpose is to support authors, publishers, and representatives of the creative community who contribute to upholding high artistic standards in national literature. The award is organized by the Institute of Political, Legal and Religious Studies with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the European Cultural Assembly, the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, and the Kyiv City State Administration.

The presentation of the Ukrainian edition took place in July 2025. To date, more than 700 copies have already been distributed among the legal community, provided to event participants, and sent to libraries.
