The UBA Intellectual Property Committee, jointly with the Ukrainian National Office for Intellectual Property and Innovations (UANIPIO), invites you to participate in an event “Secret Developments: Patenting in the Defense Sector,” which will take place on September 12, 2025, in Kyiv. Online participation (Zoom) is also available.

Questions for discussion:

1. The functioning of the system for providing legal protection to secret inventions and utility models:

• how the system is structured in general;

• which inventions and utility models can be classified as secret;

• what information about secret inventions and utility models remains in the public domain;

• what are the special features during martial law;

2. Typical path of an application containing state secrets, practical recommendations:

• key differences compared to the general procedure;
• whether the option of submitting an application for a secret invention and utility model through the applicant's security authority or through the competent local government authority is effective in practice;
• how widespread is the practice of classifying inventions and utility models as secret at present;

3. The role of the State Expert on Secrets:

• powers;

• features of interaction with UANIPIO and an applicant;

4. The scope of legal protection of secret inventions and utility models:

• key differences compared to classic inventions and utility models.
